As part of the Tech Prep grant, Dick Herman and Dan Sunia put together this video that provides an overview of Northern California manufacturing, with a focus on “the next generation” jobs and skills, emphasizing a Q&A held with students, the value of manufacturing education, and results of the Tech Prep survey conducted on manufacturing career opportunities. Companies featured include Raydiance, Labcon North America, Triformix, Agilent Technologies, and Berkeley National Labs.
Dan Sunia, Manufacturing Technology teacher at Petaluma High School and President of the CTMAA, was instrumental in getting this video made.
The video is 12 minutes long. Please feel free to share with anyone you think would benefit. Enjoy!
Here’s a 2 1/2 minute video that ran on ABC 7 News in the SF Bay Area about manufacturing making a comeback in the North Bay.
The video features 101MFG members Mike Maendl, President of ProtoFab, a mention of Icore, and Dick Herman, President of 101MFG.
In addition, David Louie, the reporter, while standing in Petaluma HS’s machine shop, talks about the difficulties in finding trained machinists and talks about what’s involved in CTMAA’s apprenticeship program. Lee Carstensen, a Petaluma HS student at the time of the interview, talks about advanced manufacturing.
Here’s a 7 1/2 minute promotional video on Petaluma High School’s Manufacturing Technology Program.
Petaluma HS is the sponsoring school for the Bay Area Tech Prep Consortium, and Dan Sunia, who runs the program at Petaluma HS, is the Tech Prep Project Director.
In addition, Dan’s program at Petaluma HS is the only NIMS accredited high school program in the state of California at this time.
In his “spare time,” Dan is also President of CTMAA (California Tooling & Machining Apprenticeship Association). For more on CTMAA, see this link:
Here’s a 7 minute video from our friends at Manufacturing Ohio discussing career options for students. This video is intended for parents and students to show that vocational careers are a viable alternative and provides a perspective on manufacturing and machining that many may not be aware of.
It features President Obama who talks about the critical role that education will play in the future workforce. It also talks about the importance of manufacturing to the health of the U.S. economy.
Here’s a two minute promotional video for the CNC machining and manufacturing technology lab at DeAnza College, one of the Bay Area Tech Prep Consortium partners.
